About the scheme

What it’s all about

We all have a part to play in protecting the environment. Recycle for Our School encourages everyone to do their bit, knowing that they’re helping local schools by pledging to recycle more.

Across the borough we need to recycle more and reduce disposal costs. With your help the borough can help save £1 million a year by recycling more – this is money which can be used to help protect other public services. It is more important than ever that we recycle what we can. Hopefully, the added incentive of helping local schools will be just the push people need to pledge to make a few small changes, so that together we can make a big difference.

How the pledge works

We’re asking the people of the borough to pledge to recycle more of their rubbish, so less gets thrown away.

Here’s how we’re doing it:

  1. A pledge book is given to each pupil
  2. They hand out pledges to their family, friends and neighbours who pledge online to recycle more
  3. The relative, friend or neighbour go online to submit their pledge
  4. To submit a pledge, family, friends and neighbours tell us how they recycle, watch a short video and tell us who asked them to pledge and what school they go to
  5. When a pupil gets 4 pledges, they win a prize. The pupil with the most pledges from each school also wins a prize. Schools can also win prizes. Check out the prize table for details

Pledges and data protection

When the pledge is completed by a representative of the household we ask that some personal information is provided so that we can administrate the pledges and allocate rewards. Without this information we cannot count the pledge. Please see terms and conditions.

We ask for an email address so that we can acknowledge receipt of everyone’s pledge. People making a pledge do not have to include their email if they would prefer not to – the pledge will still be counted. We will not send a confirmation update unless this box is ticked.

The information collected will only be used for the purposes of this project and will not be used for any other purpose. These details will not be kept beyond the duration of the project and will not be shared with any organisation outside of the project, unless required to do so by law. The information collected will be kept until the end of the project (August 2013), at which point it will be securely destroyed.
